The Native Studies class was established to provide the youth in the Cleveland
community a better understanding of Native culture, as well as provide an
environment for elders in the community to pass on their stories. The local
youth have voiced a lack of Native history taught in Cleveland Public
Schools--the class is a direct response to this issue. The goal is to facilitate
an understanding of our history, how we have persevered, and also to alleviate
common misconceptions of Native people today. Lastly, we would envision a
positive future for our people and the path needed to obtain that vision.
Parents are encouraged to attend.
